OUGD406 - Communication Is A Virus

As we have now changed direction slightly so that our idea is feasible, I have the task of creating a viral video which will help spread the word about our blog and twitter. My idea was to have a video of the making of a diy teabag, and then a link to the blog and twitter at the end. Here is my research on tea bag nets, and how to make tea bags.

Quick question: If we choose to staple the tea bags, will the staple add its own "flavor" to the tea, considering that it will be dipped in hot water?

Oh amazing!

We got a lot of Rose & Violet flavoured loose teas in France but have yet to drink any because we lack the means to work with leaves!

Best idea ever! I'm definitely going to try that. A few cute tea places in my city only sell loose leaf, but I prefer tea bags...happy compromise!

I would love to try this, but I don't have a sewing machine. :( Would hand-stitching be sufficient, or would the tea leaves leak out?

A: I don't think so. Most tea bags you buy from the grocery store are stapled, actually! :)

A: I think it would work if you did TINY stitches. It might be pretty time consuming though, for a disposable tea bag. XO!

WHY didn't I think of this? this is so brilliant! i love loose leaf chai in the mornings (not too much caffeine...but still some, since baby gets what i drink) so this would be awesome to do myself!

I adore this DIY. So simple, but so perfect. I love tea and it's the perfect idea for gifts to fellow tea lovers! I'm excited to try with loose leaf from Teavana! Yum!

This is why I think it would be a good idea to have the video on the blog because then people could comment about it, and if there were nets for people to download then people could print them off to make things easier.
A couple of the comment say that they have loose tea, but prefer tea bags, so this is a good idea for people in the same situation, as this is the perfect solution.
People have also said that it is a good idea for gifts, so it could be a good idea to have different designs/templates for people to use to give to other people.

This website has a tutorial on how to make these, and I thought that could be a good idea because they are unconventional to the normal tea bag shape, so is more interesting, and is an easy way of filling with loose tea.


A Handbook of Origami
I also have a book on origami, and I looked at the waterbox technique, which is basically a box with a hole in for water to go. I thought this could be an interesting idea because again, it is a different shape.


I like how the teabag is in the shape as a prism, as well as the tag and packaging.

This teabag looks at incorporating the tag as well as the teabag as an equally, if not more, important part of the design.


Carolyns Homework

These diy tea bags don't use stitches which is helpful because a lot of people don't know how to stitch, so this is a simpler option.




Material
Through my research I have realised a couple of materials that can be used to make the tea bag: origami paper, as the waterbox technique is waterproof; coffee filter paper as it is used for a diy teabag in one of the tutorials, and muslin cloth for the tie bag teabags. 

Video

 This is an advert for Lacoste, and it is where I thought of the idea to do a video for making a tea bag. It is very simple, and I could do a similar concept where I begin with the net of a teabag, and finish with it being a completed teabag. Then there could be a link to the blog and twitter at the end.
